Monitoring & Evaluation

    Monitoring and Evaluation

Peace Child is kicking off a new project focusing on Monitoring and Evaluation in Youth-led Development. The idea came through our World Youth Congress (WYC) Series, a biannual international gathering of young activists and development professionals. After years of defining youth priorities, identifying specific goals, sharing best practices and celebrating our achievements in previous editions of the World Youth Congress, for the 5th WYC in Turkiye 2010, we are emphasizing the need to document the advances made by youth by putting the spotlight on monitoring and evaluation.

       Why monitoring and evaluating?

After reviewing our own experiences and those of our partners, we have seen that monitoring and evaluation practices are often known for their complexity, non-youth-friendly language and difficult methodologies. With this project, our goal is to simplify monitoring and evaluation for young people, creating a set of tools, methodologies and indicators that reflects the needs of young people and donors alike. By providing young people with the skills and abilities to self-assess and evaluate, we hope to demonstrate the impacts of investing in youth! .

  Developing tools for young people

Through this project, we will be developing a Monitoring and Evaluation Toolkit for Youth highlighting best practices and simplified ways that young people can monitor and evaluate their projects and convey this in effective reports. We will also be building an online platform — a Youth-led Development Hub — where young people will be able to access these tools once completed, share their project experiences and learn from other projects, in addition to connecting with mentors and funding opportunities.

  Get involved!
Our first step in this project is the research process which we're currently undertaking. As part of this process, we are searching and analysing monitoring and evaluation methods currently available and the ways that they can be made more user-friendly, especially for young people. We’re open to ideas, so give us a shout if you'd like to share your experiences in Monitoring and Evaluation or get involved with this project.
